Mary Sun, MD

Dr. Mary Sun is a final-year psychiatry resident in the Integrated Child Psychiatry Track at Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School and a Public and Community Psychiatry Fellow at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. She received her medical doctorate and master’s degree in Clinical Research from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, where she graduated with Distinction in Research, was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society, and received the Dr. M. Dr. Sun brings a relational and systemic perspective to clinical practice, integrating in-depth psychotherapy with collaborative medication management. Her psychotherapy training spans a wide range of modalities, including psychodynamic and psychoanalytic psychotherapy, EMDR, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and third-wave cognitive therapies including ACT and DBT. She is a certified poetry/bibliotherapist, couples and sex therapist, and psychedelic-assisted therapist in training for certification at the Integrative Psychiatry Institute. Her style is curious, warm, and human, focused on how each client's unique internal histories and external contexts shape their experiences.

Beyond the therapy room, Dr. Sun is a prolific researcher with over 40 peer-reviewed publications and has received national recognition for her work in digital health and health equity. She also serves as an undergraduate instructor at Harvard University and founded and supervises a poetry therapy elective for medical trainees in partnership with Boston Children’s Hospital and Boston Public Schools. She comes to her clinical work having built a prior career at the intersection of technology, enterprise, and healthcare, spanning roles across bioinformatics, product design, and software engineering at Cityblock Health, Memorial Sloan Kettering, and Microsoft. At Joy In Health, she draws on this multidisciplinary background to provide deeply personalized, thoughtful care to every person she sees.
